The Government of India provides large-scale employment to most Biotechnologist in its research laboratories. Growing at almost 30% during this decade, Indian Biotechnology industry is likely to touch the mark of US$ 5 Billion by the end of 2010. Those employed as researchers in government sector can have a starting salary of Rs.9000 per month along with government perks/allowances. The starting salary in private Inc, India for a Biotechnologist with PhD level education, is pegged at Rs. 25,000 to 35,000 per month.
- US: In the US, the average salary of Agriculture Biotechnologists is approximately $ 50,000 at the lower end with $ 72,000 at the higher end. Independent research Agricultural Biotechnologist with a PhD level education can earn over $80,000 per year.
